The Empathy Lab is an app for practising Nonviolent Communication and is currently in a closed Testphase. This policy briefly explains what data we process and why, in the app and on this website.

What data we process
- Account details, such as your email address
- Your learning progress
- Your exercise answers and the AI feedback on them
- Conversations with the Robin voice coach, if you use it
- Your feedback on the app and usage information
- Technical data, such as your IP address
How we use it
We only use your data to provide and improve the app. During the Testphase, we read stored answers and AI feedback to improve the content. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Your answers and conversations may contain personal content. We only process them with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
AI services
The feedback and Robin are generated by AI. To do this, we send your answers to OpenAI. If you answer by voice or talk to Robin, we send your recording and the conversation text to OpenAI and ElevenLabs. Both use the data only to provide their service to us.
Testphase sign-up on this website
If you sign up for the Testphase on this website, we store your email address, whether you use iPhone or Android, and the time you gave your consent. We use this only to invite you to the Testphase, for example through Apple TestFlight or Google Play testing. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing us. We delete your sign-up at the latest 30 days after the Testphase ends.
This website uses no cookies, no tracking and no analytics. Fonts are served from our own server.
Other service providers
We use Supabase (accounts and storage), Fly.io (servers and this website) and Expo (app updates). Some providers are based in the USA. They process your data only on our behalf to provide their services.
How we protect your data
All connections between the app, this website and our servers are encrypted (HTTPS). Only the team has access to stored data, and only to run and improve the app.
How long we keep data
We delete all your data at the latest 30 days after the Testphase ends. This includes your account, learning progress, answers, AI feedback, conversations with Robin and your Testphase sign-up. Technical server logs and backups are deleted automatically by our providers within 30 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profil > Konto löschen, or request deletion at empathylab.app/delete-account. When you delete your account, we delete your account details, learning progress, answers and AI feedback. We keep only a short record that the deletion took place for 30 days, so we can prove it was carried out.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of or deletion of your data, and withdraw your consent. Just send us an email at privacy@empathylab.app. You can also lodge a complaint with the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA).
Changes
If we change this policy, we will let you know in the app.
